A review site for people who already know what they want
Most shopping content is written to catch someone typing a brand name into a search box, and it shows: a thousand words that never quite answer whether the thing is worth buying. We write the other kind.
DealOtter reviews the retailers, marketplaces and subscription tools where people actually spend money online. Every review answers the same three questions: what is this good at, what does it really cost once fees and memberships are counted, and what happens when something goes wrong.
Why we do not do coupon codes
We started out planning to. Then we looked at how many public codes still work for large retailers, and the answer was: not many. The discounting moved into free membership tiers, verified student and military pricing, outlet channels, price matching and markdown calendars. Publishing a wall of dead codes would have looked busier and helped nobody.
So the site does the harder version instead: for each brand, the mechanisms that genuinely reduce what you pay there. It is less exciting than a code and it works considerably more often.
Our standards
- Scores before commerce. Editorial assessment is finished before any commercial relationship is considered.
- Rank by score. Never by commission, never by who pays best.
- Show the reasoning. A score without an argument is just a number.
- No invented specifics. If we did not test it, we do not claim we did.
- Correct in public. When we are wrong, we fix it and say so.
Independence
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any company reviewed here. Brand names and trademarks are used for identification. Any future affiliate relationship will be disclosed in full and kept away from the scoring, as described in how we review.
Who writes DealOtter
The DealOtter editors is a collective editorial byline. dealotter does not publish invented reviewer profiles. The publication uses this clearly labelled collective byline instead of inventing people, portraits or biographies.
